I’m reposting because this is a fabulous list, but I’m not going to knock something that’s sold 10 million copies and has a $5 million movie deal and is pretty much known to everyone who reads any form of entertainment. I’m just not. I’d be happy to sell 1/100th of that. I believe in karma and promoting books I adore, not publicly trashing books I don’t. (I do believe in book criticism and critique, but I am far more horrified by the people saying extremely anti-feminism, anti-BDSM things along the lines of “women who submit to men in kinky ways are the devil and support patriarchy” than I am by anything E.L. James has or will ever write). I will be discussing Fifty Shades of Grey today on NPR’s AirTalk, live at 2:30 EST! And I will point you to my New York Observer article on attending a Fifty Shades of Grey/E.L. James luncheon.
That’s a pregret.
Why not read some smut that A) went through an editor and B) was written above a sixth-grade reading level?
