Forever ago when I was in my first or second year of college (I was only there three years so I guess I had a freshman, sophomore and senior year) I wrote a long ass letter I don’t remember at all to Naomi Wolf re: Fire with Fire, whose contents I now absolutely can’t remember, but I do recall being totally fired up, as I often was back in those days, as I seem to rarely be now. I was so young and idealistic and probably over the top ridiculous. On my Mac Color Classic I could probably still access that letter. Anyway, I turn 35 this night and may make it out to this event, since it looks pretty amazing.
This is happening and unbelievable and huge (that is, for me personally) and if you’re in NYC, please come say hi so that this will also be huge literally. All in all, I’m honored and slightly intimidated to be speaking among this group of women, but I’ll try to do y’all proud ;) Here’s the blurb:
Voices from the left and right: Lena Chen, Allison Kasic, Shelby Knox and Jessica Valenti. Moderated by Naomi Wolf and More editor-in-chief Lesley Jane Seymour
Where are all the young feminists? That’s the frequently asked—and loaded—question that inspired More editor-in-chief Lesley Jane Seymour to feature 14 young feminists in her November issue (on news-stands Oct 26). Bestselling author Naomi Wolf (The Beauty Myth) joins Seymour and panelists Lena Chen, Allison Kasic, Shelby Knox and Jessica Valenti for a provocative discussion: How do the young leaders define feminism? Is blogging the new march on Washington? What do the conservative feminists believe? And will the intergenerational clash ever end?
Date & Time: Wed, Nov 10, 2010, 7:00pm Location: 92YTribeca, 200 Hudson Street Venue: 92YTribeca Mainstage Tickets ($12) available online at the 92Y event page.
(If you can’t make it for financial or scheduling reasons, I’ll be posting a detailed recap post-event.)
